Fornino at Pier 6

With arguably one of the best views in the city this rooftop pizzeria and bar is a must visit in the warmer months. One of three Fornino locations this Brooklyn Bridge Park spot offers stunning views of Lower Manhattan and a chilled atmosphere. Watching the sunset and the city lights begin to sparkle is not to be missed! As well as amazing wood fired pizza’s you can also enjoy sandwiches, salads and ice cream from the menu…and a jug of sangria doesn’t hurt either, it’s full of fruit and delicious. Head here for dinner or just a drink but don’t miss this view!

Baba’s Pierogies

With dumplings counted among our favourite foods of course we were keen to try the Eastern European version, called a pierogi. Luckily for us Baba’s Pierogies is just around the corner and offers a selection of these delights with both savoury and sweet fillings. Made using a family recipe passed down from the owners grandma, or baba, the menu offers the classics and some fillings with a twist. Choose your preferred cooking method, boiled or pan fried, and be sure to add some extra toppings and dips. These little packages are yummy…and in my opinion it’s worth leaving room for a sweet option too!

Katz’s Delicatessen

A New York institution for over 100 years now, this family run deli in the Lower East Side has built it’s name as a focal point in the community. Specialising in cured meats with a process that takes 30 days rather than the more commonly used method of 36 hours, its easy to see why New Yorkers and tourists alike flock here to enjoy the now famous sandwiches, platters and meats. They put their longevity down to loyal patrons who have continued to bring friends, write books and even shoot films at the low frills location…all while enjoying a classic order of pastrami on rye.

Enjoying Summer is easy with the huge outdoor area on offer at Pig Beach, a BBQ joint where you can fill up on meat and booze in a relaxed environment! With large bench tables it is the perfect spot for an afternoon with friends, plus kids and puppies are welcome. Along with an impressive beer selection there’s also rose cider, wine and some classic cocktails on offer…cue the slushy machine! Of course the main attraction is the food, and it doesn’t disappoint. Get yourself, a burger or hotdog or share a selection of meats with classic sides. And with the Pitmaster Series running through to September you can experience smoked meat by chefs from across the country.

Sprinkles

Still the best cupcakes I’ve ever eaten…which is a big call because before trying these I thought most cupcakes were of a similar standard! As well as the infamous Cupcake ATM, which I have to admit is pretty fun, you can also peruse the selection in store and choose based on looks. More my game! From its first store in Beverly Hills the Sprinkles cupcake craze has spread across the country and ice cream and cookies are now also on the menu. With so many options the only problem is deciding on your order…or delivery. And with catering also available, cupcake tower anyone, they’re the best treat to serve at your next event. Be sure to put them to the test if you find yourself near one of their twenty current locations!
